POEM: To Pave the Way [3]

TO PAVE THE WAY
to Christina Hults

Elizabeth was gray with age
And finishing her life childless,
She lived by God's law without fault.
God chose this old woman to bless.
Zachariah was very old,
A temple priest and her husband;
Chosen by lot to burn incense
At a rites table where he'd stand.
One day he was serving God there,
Many gathered outside and prayed.
An angel of the Lord appeared
And Zachariah was afraid.
A voice filled the place wall to wall
Said, "God heard your prayer do not fear;
Elizabeth will birth a son,
I'm Gabriel, God sent me here."
Zachariah didn't believe
And his speech was taken that day;
'Til his miracle son was born
God's divine plan to pave the way.
