AT MIDNIGHT to all my grandchildren and all their annual New Year's Eve friends People believe they can affect Good fortune and luck for the year; They eat and do all the right things, Traditional hearts are sincere. Soon after the stroke of midnight, In the first few minutes they see; A few true friends sharing customs Practiced by the whole family. The guests celebrate the New Year By ringing it in together; Many party throughout the night, Don't give a care for bad weather. Some wear silly or gaudy hats, Some dance, play board games or just snack; At twelve o'clock they trap one wish In a bag and give it a smack. Everyone makes their own wish bag For the New Year Celebration; Decorated with picture art, Bag wishes must total seven.  Artists blow one most wanted wish In their bag and hold on real tight; Their big wish will be granted if They give it a pop at midnight. ©Copyright 1999-2007 Caryl Ramsdale
