ADAM and EVE

to Tom Casey and Tim Casey
Then put the man in charge of all beasts and birds of the air.
He forewarned the man saying taste not from that knowledge tree;
It bears good and evil fruit remember that fruit’s not free.
God listened as the man named every living thing in site;
Certain the man still needed a partner that was just right.
So God created again taking from the sleeping man;
While he rested quietly, devine surgery began.
Man’s flesh was opened and closed as God transplanted one bone
Into a life he had built so man wouldn’t live alone.
“Bone of my bones,” the man said, “Flesh of my flesh you are too;
Because you’re taken from man, wo-man is what I’ll name you.”
One day they tasted evil, ate taboo fruit, became wise;
God called Where art thou? and they hid from His judicious eyes.
