CHOSEN AT WILL
to Sandi Bryce Hicks

I don't remember thanking you,
For the special times you were there;
For merrymaking, for sad tears,
For memories only we share.
Like a sock hop in the school gym,
When great music was rock 'n' roll;
The bunny hop, the twist were in,
Dance steps were an important goal.
Cruising up and down boulevards,
Cars parked at a local hangout;
Just one buck was minimum wage,
We had big things to think about.
A 'come from behind football team',
Was always the talk of the town,
And street dances to celebrate,
The best basketball team around.
Thoughts and actions are influenced,
By clothes we wear and by friends still;
Clothes are just a sign of the times,
But good friends are chosen at will.
