about:
faith and self-righteousness
TEARS IN A BOTTLE COLLECTION
Caryl Ramsdale, American Poet
And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house brought an alabaster box of ointment, LUKE 7:37 KJV
:THE WOMAN WHO WASHED JESUS’ FEET
" Mary of Bethany "
Story: Jesus is annointed by a sinner.
The dark image of a woman
Standing in a doorway of light;
Seized the dinner host’s attention—
Her pose was a familiar sight.
Uninvited, she stepped inside.
Casually moving about;
Her bright eyes swept the room slowly—
‘Twas that city woman, no doubt.
Mary means bitterness

to Deloris Patrick
Kneeling she spread cool teardrops
On one foot—then the other one;
Smearing dirt, cleaning the scorched feet
Of God’s forgiving, sinless Son.
Her long, silky hair touched His feet
And she used it to wipe them dry;
Kissed both feet gratefully because
Tender mercy caused her to cry.
One man observing her closely
Knew the law—was a Pharisee;
His self-righteous influence caused
Unjust suffering most agree.
A prophet has divine power—
Simon couldn’t believe his eyes;
Jesus should know a sinner’s touch—
How could He?  He must not be wise.
Face glowing—holding something small,
She strolled toward the back of the room;
The white jar she held in one hand
Was filled to the brim with perfume.
As tears of joy and woe fell on—
Simon The Pharisee’s—house guest;
The sinful woman stood sobbing
Shamelessly, in front of the rest.
The full contents of her jar spilled
A wet substance over its rim;
Ceremoniously splashing—
On Jesus Christ—anointing Him.
She hated what she used to love
With the heart of a repenter;
Old attitudes—values—ways changed
When Jesus became her mentor.
Know the law—know right from wrong; but the life you live won’t feel complete,
‘Til you learn to live in peace like the woman who washed Jesus feet.

And He said to the woman, Thy faith has saved thee; go in peace.  LUKE 7:50
