| And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. MARK 14:30 KJV | |||||||||||||
Once Judas led an angry crowd To arrest Jesus for a crime. Jesus' friends ran off and left Him While Peter followed far behind. "He was with them," they said pointing, "Hear him talk? He's from Galilee." "I don't know Him," Peter answered, "I've never kept His company." Jesus looked over His shoulder Straight into His disciple's eyes— Somewhere nearby a rooster crowed Because, Peter had told a lie. "Those two are friends," said another, "He followed Jesus. I saw them." |
"Not true! Not true!" Peter shouted, "I'm innocent. I don't know Him." A rooster crowed a second time. Peter cried. He felt like a fool. He said he never knew Jesus— He'd forgotten the Golden Rule. "He's your leader. We all know it," All the people said gathering 'round. "I don't know Him!" Peter argued— Then mumbled something and sat down. It was written in the scriptures— Soon everyone would feel the loss— The faithful weren't so faithful as Jesus prepared to face the cross. |
