DESCENDED FROM ROYALTY
to Shirley Skidmore Holley

While searching for descendents
And tracing our ancestry,
I was shown all sorts of things
About our big family.
Official records stacked up
Confirming our house of birth,
Our list of forbears traveled
To the far ends of the earth.
I logged names on our tree
And charted a holy King;
This champion forerunner
Caused nations to pray and sing.
He stood for a stalwart bunch,
Betokened stability;
Flagged us all lionhearted—
Fearless throughout history.
This Man, this King of Kings will
Personify family.
Just to set the record straight,
We descended from royalty.
