BESIDE MY BED
to Edna Casey
Nothing can touch a good book
Exploding with adventure;
Like one of maps and pirates
In search of buried treasure.
Turn the pages of this one.
Don't skip a word or letter;
In here a white rabbit's late
And a girl follows after.
I have thick books and thin books,
I like either one the best.
Here's one about a farm girl
And a mean witch from the west.
I read about a strange world
Of lost boys and kids that flew;
Of mermaids and fairy dust
That made children's dreams come true.
One favorite collection
Of the best stories I've read,
Fill-up a thin paged, thick book
That I keep there beside my bed.
